Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram on Saturday, launching several regional development projects.
The expansion of aviation infrastructure in the Vizianagaram district is intended to stimulate economic growth and improve connectivity across Andhra Pradesh. By reducing travel bottlenecks, the government aims to attract further industrial investment to the region.
The airport, located in Bhogapuram, was constructed at a cost of ₹5,000 crore [1]. It is designed to handle an annual capacity of six million passengers [3]. This facility serves as a primary pillar of the broader infrastructure push in the state.

Officials said the projects are part of a strategic effort to modernize the region. The Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport is expected to serve as a gateway for both domestic and international travel, easing the pressure on existing transit hubs in the state.
