Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu launched development projects worth over ₹47,000 crore in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district on Saturday.
The initiative aims to accelerate economic growth and improve the quality of life for residents in the region. By focusing on infrastructure and renewable energy, the government intends to modernize rural districts while promoting sustainable development.
The total value of the announced projects is reported between ₹47,000 crore [1] and ₹47,600 crore [2]. These investments span multiple sectors to stimulate the local economy in Mayurbhanj.
As part of the outreach, the leaders declared the village of Pahadpur, also spelled Paharpur [2], as a "Solar Village." This village is the native home of President Murmu. The designation is intended to promote renewable energy and serve as a model for other rural communities in India.
The declaration of the Solar Village coincides with the 68th birthday of President Murmu [1]. This symbolic gesture links the President's personal history with the national goal of increasing solar energy adoption.
Government officials said the projects are designed to create a lasting impact on the regional infrastructure. The focus on Mayurbhanj highlights a strategic effort to bring development to tribal-dominated areas of the state.

This large-scale investment in Odisha signifies a dual strategy by the Indian government to combine high-value infrastructure development with targeted rural sustainability. By designating the President's native village as a Solar Village, the administration is using a high-profile personal milestone to signal a broader policy shift toward decentralized renewable energy in underdeveloped regions.
