Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in the Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday.
The opening of the facility, also known as Bhogapuram International Airport, is intended to improve regional and international connectivity. Officials said the move aims to spur economic growth in North Andhra Pradesh.
The airport project represents an investment of nearly ₹5,000 crore [1]. This infrastructure expansion is part of a broader push to modernize transport links in the region, a strategy designed to attract further commercial investment.
Alongside the airport opening, the Prime Minister launched several other development projects. These initiatives are valued at nearly Rs 18,000 crore [2].
The Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport is expected to serve as a primary gateway for the state, reducing the reliance on existing hubs. By integrating the Vizianagaram district into the global aviation network, the government intends to accelerate industrialization and job creation in the surrounding areas.
The broader investment package includes various regional infrastructure upgrades. These projects are intended to complement the airport's capacity by improving the logistics and transport networks connecting the terminal to nearby urban centers.
