Arvind Kejriwal, national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), announced a financial assistance programme for women in Punjab starting July 1 [1].

The initiative aims to promote women's empowerment through direct financial aid. By providing immediate liquidity to women across different social categories, the government seeks to increase their financial independence and economic stability.

The programme will provide a lump-sum payment covering three months of assistance [1]. Under the terms of the scheme, women in the general category will receive a payment of ₹3,000 [1]. Beneficiaries from Scheduled Caste (SC) communities will receive a higher lump-sum payment of ₹4,500 [1].

These payments are scheduled to be credited to the beneficiaries on July 1 [1]. The structure of the payments ensures that the most marginalized groups receive a higher level of support to address systemic economic disparities.

Kejriwal said the programme is designed to provide direct support to women in the region. The Aam Aadmi Party has previously focused on welfare schemes as a core part of its governance strategy in Punjab and Delhi.

General-category women will receive a lump-sum payment of ₹3,000.

This move signals a continuation of the Aam Aadmi Party's strategy of utilizing direct benefit transfers to strengthen its social welfare profile in Punjab. By differentiating payment amounts between general and SC categories, the party is explicitly targeting intersectional poverty to solidify support among marginalized communities ahead of future political cycles.
